New to the Forum, New to Supras, but have 2 coming my way

So I have wanted a supra for a long time now, and have spent some time looking for a decent one, but i decided to just buy a project car instead, and was lucky enough to find a supra... in fact two of them. They are both 1987 7mge, and standard, burgundy inside and out, but they both have issues. I have a friend going into the deal with me and we are getting them for $750 each, with some extra parts included like doors, winter tires on steelies, and some random parts like an alternator and a starter... and a set of awful 8 inch subwoofers lol.
We have already decided that I will get the targa Supra with 230000km on the engine, but in driveable condition, and he is going to take the other one, hardtop 220000km, but unfortunately not running. The current owner claims it ran when he parked it... of course lol, but its been sitting for quite some time.
I figure ill just drain the old gas in it, make sure the fuel pump is working, check the spark plugs and all of the fuses. Right now, the main goal is to just get it running, and then we will go from there.. ill post pictures as we go, but any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Where to start?

Hey guys, i finally brought those two Supras home, and regardless of the work ahead of me to fix it up, i am extremely excited! Such beautiful cars! anyways, I just drove mine a little bit around where I live and i have only given the car a basic clean inside and out. It seems to run alright... but i have noticed a bubbling noise behind the dash at about 2000+ rpm while not moving.... aside from that, mechanically everything seems alright, but just to be sure... i want to know where to start, and get as much advice as i can from everyone with experience... as i said before the car has 229000 km on the engine, and she was in an abusive relationship with the past owner :frown:
Im going away for a week, but when i get back I was thinking of draining and replacing all fluids and possibly sparkplugs depending on condition... If you guys could give me some pointers on the coolant, oil, etc. to use, and how much of it, and any tricks, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all!

check your oil, be nice.:bigthumb:
use toyotas red antifreeze if your gona flush.
check your plug wires for corrosion, as well as plugs.
check ALL fuses to be sure your operational, all signals lights and headlights are flipping up right.
check your air cleaner!
not a bad idea to go over all vacuum lines for leaks. check all rad hoses for breaks or cracks. top off your power steering and make sure its bled nicely.
check your brake fluid level.
run error codes.
check all belts for wear.
check for any obvious oil leaks.

lots of stuff you can do... just take it slow and do stuff right. and these cars will treat you right!
good luck and have fun, and remember if you get stuck, search or ask questions online.
and check out the tsrm for all info:

Hey all!
Sorry I took so long to get back to you, I ended up going away for a while again!
Anyways I finally got a nice day, and this project decently clean, so i took a few pictures... so you can see what i have to work with!

what part of Toronto are you in? I just bought myself an '86.5 GE that need front end body panels and a paint job. Nice ride though, good platform if there is no rust on it. If there is get it looked at right away. Is everything still stock on yours?

SnowSupra 03-21-2012 02:28 AM

I actually live North of Toronto, about a half hour outside of it,
but anyways mine is in desperate need of body and paint work, as you can see in the pictures, so I feel your pain, but the frame is fantastic, it was oil sprayed quite often from the looks of it, I believe the engine needs some love, but i just want to start driving it, such an awesome car! :bigthumb:
and yes, it is completely stock!
