What transmission fits 7mge

ive been searching for a while and can never get the answer i am looking for so someone give it to me straight.

i know that it comes with the w56, but can you put the r154 on it? i also read someone putting a g52 on it. and which one do you think is better

W56 was only used in Toyota trucks. The 7M came paired with a W58, R154 (7M-GTE only) or an A134E; All use different bellhousings, clutches (if applicable), flywheels and driveshafts. You *should* be able to mount any transmission from the same series to a matching bellhousing but that doesn't mean that other changes won't need to be made; For example while a W56 will mount to the 7M-GE W58's bellhousing and clutch will work, the extension housing may need to be replaced and a different driveshaft fabricated.

With custom work you can fit a multitude of transmissions from various manufacturers in there; The Turbo Hydro 350 is one popular choice.

Yes, you can swap in a R154, but if you're car isn't making more than 350hp at the wheels I have no idea why you would want to... The R154 is considerably heavier and doesn't shift very smoothly compared to the W58. The gearing is almost identical (the big difference in gearing between GTE and N/A is in the differential).

i have heard of guys running 300-400 hp with no problems as long as you dont get wheel hop.
wheel hop=w58 explosion.
there is people running around 600 with the w58, but they only get a few 1/4 mile runs before she bombs.

newer years of the w58 are no different than the 1982 w58 sitting in my garage, just shifter locations change over the years.

I want to get 500hp. Is there a way to upgrade the w58 or will I have to get the r154

unless your drag racing...
like i said, avoid wheel hop, and dont worry about your tranny...
r154 is stronger, supposedly...:squint::squint::squint:
just swap it if your really worried about trans strength.
me i just have ammunition.http://www.dodgecoronet.com/forum/im...n_20Smiley.gif

Hop isn't the problem and neither is horse power... The problem is sudden torque. Hop isn't an issue, the issue is the moment you get traction. Launching aggressively, unsprung clutches, one piece driveshafts, etc. are other killers.

A rebuilt W58 can be built up to be more robust but beyond 350RWHP I wouldn't trust it if you're a 1/4 mile type driver. I'd feel plenty confident running it at over 400 but I don't really stomp on it unless I'm on a highway or track (not a drag strip)... I'm just not an 'off the line' kind of guy.

For most folks who are really serious about making big power I recommend a full swap or, better yet, sell the N/A and just start out with a turbo model.
