will 9" rims fit

I got an '88 which is lowered about 3 to 4 inches. My question is, will 9" wide by 17" dia rims fit without any major customizing?

:drool:i have 17"x8.5 235/45/17 amp with hnr raceingsprings (2.6" drop) and i still have some room between the coils and all that between my tires so most likely :D

H&R racing springs only drop a bit over an inch and a half... unless they're old, sagging or you have a massive rear end. 1.6" front and 1.3 rear is what they say and the last person I knew who had a set measured about 1.75" in the front after 2 years on them. You on different size tires or non-OEM dampers? Different perch height or tire profile would account for the offset you're seeing.

Anyway, whether they'll fit or not is going to depend more on the offset than the tire size. 255's will fit comfortably on a mildly lowered MKIII and I suspect they'll fit fine on a slammed MKIII but may require rolling the fenders. Look in the tire fitment thread in the MKIII FAQ section, someone may have posted more first hand info.

So, I take it it's on either cut springs or coil overs... Have any pics? I've only ever seen one completely slammed MKIII (I think around a 4" drop) but his front weels were turned when he hit a small speed bump and it sucked the driver's side fender into the wheel well and pushed the passenger side out.... not a good example.

O my bad ...i just got my supra and the guy gave me the recipts for all the suspension work and everything for the car...and I know the coils are hnr because theyre blue and say hnr on the in like 3 places on each coil....and I know theyre not cut because they dont have amy cut marks and all look complete I mightve read the description of the coils wrong so yea I was wron only a 1.6" drop my baf

lol couple years ago i was rockin some 260/50 tires they had mean traction..
i would not mind some more...but possibly a smaller sidewall this time:bigthumb:

newtosupra 02-05-2012 04:46 PM

Yea I know what you mean I like the look of really wide tires in the back and I like the extra traction ...but Ive been trying to drift latly and im kinda liking not having super wide tires in the back ... But yea key word is "trying" lol off topic but the best drift I had was when I got off from work at like 2 inthe morning and was with my friend and he has his ae86 and we left the shop and getting on to meridian I slowed down t to about 20 dropped it in 2 second cranked the wheeps and kicked the clutch and judt kept it pinned and took the corner like a champ lol

CanadianBak'inSupra 02-05-2012 05:13 PM

i found in the mk3s drifting had to be taken to a higher speed just to lose traction. floppy suspension in the mk2s and lighter makes it easier.
just don't over correct and your fine...and don't get caught, because it is illegal, friend of mine got a ticket a few weeks ago in his corolla (welded rear end and 4ac) it was like a slow motion movie in the snow, haha lol

as of right now i have 275/40/17 front and rear, 17x9 front, 17x10 rear, +25 offset front, +45 offset rear. And about a 2 1/2" drop all around i say, and i have some rubbing but i have to get my fenders rolled and it should be fine.

realdeal 02-05-2012 07:02 PM

Ya all I'm looking for is more traction. I have 265 on there now and if I take off too hard off the line, all I do is spin. I'm hoping wider tires will give more traction and thus help my situation. That's my only weak point at the drag track so I'll take anything I can get

CanadianBak'inSupra 02-05-2012 09:52 PM

if your rear end is open this may cause one wheel peel resaulting in traction loss...
LSD for the win!!!
