Hello i have found a manual transmission in a non turbo 86.5 supra could i use this in my automatic non turbo 89 with the 86.5 ecu?

Yes. Aside from installing the required mechanical components (also requires a different driveshaft and possibly flywheel) you remove the transmission computer and reroute or bypass the neutral start switch. If the transmission is from a Turbo model then you may want to swap differentials as well so that the speedometer and odometer are accurate. Do note that the Turbo's manual transmission (R154) is a good bit heavier than the N/A's (W58) and is a little notchier (doesn't shift quite as smoothly).

It would be easier for you to buy a Supra with a manual transmission. Conversion is a pain in the butt you do not need. Funny I have a 5 speed but am "lazy" and wish I had an automatic.

Is the non turbo manual an R154 as well? is this conversion going to cause a lot of problems? i have herd conversions like this sometimes do and this is my everyday driver so i still need it to be reliable. automatics are more luxurious but i just like shifting gears lol

no, the N/A trannies were w58's. you could put a turbo tranny behind an n/a, but it takes more power to turn and shifts harder. unsure what you would need to make the speedo read right.

The speedometers for all MKIIIs (all Toyotas with mechanical speedometers, I think) run at the same input:speed ratio.... In other words they may all be interchanged and they'll report the same speed. The speed at which the cable rotates is another story; It's a calculation of tire circumference, end gear ratio, transmission worm gear and the driven gear which then connects to the speedometer cable. If you change any of these you upset the accuracy of both odometer and speedometer.

While you can recalibrate the speedometer, you can not recalibrate the odometer. Ideally, you would change the driven gear so that it matches the rest of your setup as closely as possible but that's not always an option.... the W58 uses a different size driven gear than the R154 and A134E, so you can't just swap them. I never managed to find one but if you swap in a W58 and have a GTE LSD you might have luck finding a compatible driven gear from another Toyota which was equipped with the same ratio end gear and a W series transmission.

what about the 86 supra will it be able to run with the ecu out of my 89? Like i said they are both nonturbo's the 86 is manual the 89 is automatic

Not likely. If the plug recepticles on the ECUs are different colors then they're not compatible (not entirely true for the 7M-GE ECUs, but there are a few reasons you still want to avoid mixing the two). It isn't a big deal, as I mentioned before the A/T ECU will be fine with a manual transmission and the ECT computer disconnected.
