7mgte with a w58?
So my 1986 supra has been sitting in my garage with a blown motor for a while now and I am trying to figure out what to do with it. It died Halloween night and I have been without it since then. I have considered a 1jz swap but then I started pricing everything out... I found a turbo mk3 with an auto transmission in the classifieds and was wondering if my current w58 would work with the 7mgte if i swapped it over. Or if I could upgrade it enough to have it work. I know I'm going to put in a stronger clutch but wonder if it would even be worth it or just buy a r154. Money is kinda my main problem, minimum wage sucks...
Thanks. |
A stronger pressure plate would be a good idea; A new OEM GE clutch plate and flywheel should serve fine (get the flywheel resurfaced, of course). The W58's rather nice with a conservative 7M-GTE as it's smoother shifting than the R154 and lighter... They'll hold 350 to 400RWHP pretty reliably as long as it's in good shape to begin with.
