7m head gasket

i need a head gasket for 7m im getting a metal with arp studs first of all is there a certain brand someone would recommend and i heard of when putting the gasket on you could shave some of the head off instead of the block and that it would be cheaper and stronger is this true?

yes, get the head machined...and have them chemical bathe it. But, if u go metal, u will probably need the block machined also. Metal hg requires a very smooth surface. like...brand new type smooth. I ended up going with a ishino composite headgasket and arp studs instead of bolts. studs are alot stronger then bolts, and i didnt get the block machined so yea. how much hp are u planning on running?

The stock oem HG and arp head studs hold up pretty good.

Yes they do but u can't reuse any of these lol but....arp head studs are so much better then arp bolts. There overkill which is nice to kno

I was talking about a new one from Toyota or driftmotion.

Ishino was the supplier for toyota then, so same hg, but it will be a lot cheaper then one from toyota

The 7M's head bolts are not TTY. They are reusable (but the age of them is why I recommend replacing them). The fasteners were never the problem.

Pro tip: Toyota's service manuals do specify which fasteners are single use and which are one use only. In the MKIII TSRM it's just an asterisk by the fastener in the exploded diagram with a note at the bottom. A few are noted in the text too.

i plan on using a metal head gasket and the arp studs what size gasket should i use

Awyman18 11-20-2011 07:16 PM

depends on how much the machine shop shaves off....most is usually around 1.2mm
