MKIII 6m block swap

My 7m has bad rings..so I came across a 6m with new pistons and rings. Can I just swap the block and put my 7m head on and be good to go?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a 6MGE is essentially an early 7M block/rotating assembly with a late 5M cylinder head/efi.

I know bore and stroke are the same 6M and 7M, can't confirm the compression ratio will be though.

I believe it should work as a replacement with mild modification, may need to change stuff like the timing gear on the crank of the 6M, dunno for sure though

as far as my research has gone, the 6m lower end is the same as the 7m. couldnt find info on the timing setup. the pistons are definitely different, but couldnt find the comp ratio either.

i know all the parts for my jdm 7m had 6m stamped on them (rods, crank) so id say aside from the pistons, youd prolly be solid.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I came up with. Only reason I bring up the crank timing gear is because I'm fairly certain the 5M uses a timing chain and not a belt.

EDIT: Turns out the 5ME uses a chain, 5MGE uses a belt. So the 6M bottom end is probably good to go without modification.

i was gonna say..."mmmm....i wanna see the 5mge's uve seen!" haha

It will be a whole lot easier to repair your 7m block. Most of the people problems on this forum is by trying to save a few bucks that costs them hundreds in the end.

Thanks all for the good input.
