Help!!!!

Hey guys i just got the afm today and all i could do is connect it to the harness cause i can't put it in the housing until i get some screw extractors to take the old screw out. Well before with the old afm the car would turn on and then stall out now when i connected the new one to the harness it stayed on but after a few minutes the cars idle started to go up and down and when i would try to rev it it would only reve to about 3000rpm im not sure but could it be that its not in the intake housing so it cant read the air correctly is this why or could it be my idle air control valve. Im just not sure.

If you guys think that it is the IAC could i use one off a non turbo supra or does it have to be a turbo model.

Hey guys do you think that it could be the cps cause i did take it out before and then the car could not turn on when i put it back in but then i took it back out and turned it and the car started right up. My question is could the car even start if the cps was not put in right.

Checking the base timing would be a good idea, especially since you removed the cps. Be sure to carefully check the wiring at the cps and it's connector, they tend to get roasted and frail because of age and heat.
Check codes again for a knock sensor code. The computer will pull timing if the sensor detects knock or has damaged wiring.

No how would i be able to set the timing on this car cause from my past history the cars that i have worked on never turned on if the timing was off mostly dsms. I thought that the timing or the cps has to be dead on for the car to turn on or am i wrong. The one thing i have not done is a boost leak test and i have a tester that i can use.

Ya i live in hazleton pa i just messed up on the time zone when i open the account with the forums. Im going nuts trying to figure out whats up with the car but i am going to do a boost leak test friday once i fix the inlet pipe its split inhalf i am getting a new still waiting on the part but im gonna try the best i can to fix it the best i can until the new one comes in.

Have you checked for error codes in the ECU?

Here's how to reset the mechanical and electronic timing:

Mechanical timing must be right before you can ever set the electrical timing... and you musn't have any codes stored in the ECU to set the ignition advance (electrical timing).

The screw extractor was the best thing I bought in awhile.

Just a question, did you get a new afm from a scrap yard. Electronics and the housing? Because if you got the honeycomb housing off of a 7mgte which I doubt but did get it off a ls400.. its bigger and unusable on your stock system. you have to put the electronic on your old housing. Don't know if anyone told you or what. Figured id give you a heads up

No just got the afm off a 88 supra turbo off ebay for $50.
