Help me fix my hesitation and cut out!

I've got an 87 turbo. At about 3-5k rpms, it either hessitates ot completely cuts out.
.
It has the translator pro, aftermarket IC and piping, and full 3in exhaust.

It has new water pump, tps sensor, o2 sensor, spark plugs and wires.

The car came with the translator, because the pervious owner suspected the maf was going out. So I installed it and the car still has hessitating and cutting out problems.

Also, it idels high (the adjuster screw is all the way out), misses a little, and runs rich.

Any suggestion, or things to check will be greatly appreciated!

DIAGNOSTIC CODES. Did you check for any yet? Do it now.
The MAFT Pro, is it set to run a MAF or MAP sensor?

dylansword 08-10-2011 12:40 AM

I just checked for codes. There is none. And it is set for maf

I just replaced the fuel filter and turned the boost down to 7 psi and it is still cutting out.

Could the ecu be cutting fuel too early?

Also, when the car is in neutral, it revs up and spools with no problem at all. And as well as when I peel out, and the tires are spinning, it doesnt cut out..

If there are no codes present, you might just have a boost leak. They can be tricky to find. It sounds like it's only happening under boost. You can also check the spark plugs if you haven't changed them in awhile.

Do you have a wideband installed? Is the AFR spiking past 20:1 when this happens? Have you done any tuning? If so, what?

dylansword 08-11-2011 05:51 PM

I don't have a wideband, but I will be getting one. (Recomindations are valued). And as far as tuning I have the maft pro, and everything is set to what the manual says.

The manual doesn't cover how to tune or any significant fuel adjustments... look to see if the mainscale is anything other than 0 and check to see if the fuel "tune" maps are all zeroed out or not. I know you have a MAFT Pro and it's safe to say I know a tiny bit about them. ;)

dylansword 08-11-2011 11:59 PM

I don't have the manual for the translator, the car came with everything but that when I bought it. I found everytging I know about it online.

So, could you breifly explain the main scale adjustment? I think I know which ones your talking about for the fuel tune ones.

Also, when the car is running, the tps, o2, and spark all show 0 and don't change... should they?

Here's an old website of mine with some documentation I put together on the system as well as other electronics info: http://www.fadingworld.com/CRE/Autom...ra/Electrical/

This will get you started. I've also got two versions of the manual for the MAFT Pro mirrored on there; You may find a newer version on the FullThrottleTech.com forum as well as firmware updates. For running MAF I don't know of any significant updates worth worrying about right away, so probably best not to screw with it right now.

There is no idle adjustment screw anywhere on the MKIII Supra (N/A or Turbo). If you're referring to the AFM fuel mixture trim screw that needs to be reset to exactly where it was to begin with. It shifts the entire mixture in open loop operations.

~So how do I properly adjust this? It was running rich when I got the car.

~And how do I turn down the idle? It idles at about 1350 rpm.

And as far as my other thread, I am planning getting this problem fixed first. And I do plan on doind more supporting upgrades, fuel pump and bigger injectors. It already has 3 in exhaust and down pipe, bigger IC and piping.

Okay, so I think its fixed. I just had to program the translator correctly. Thanks a buch CRE!
