((i.e. oil change..timing belt change..tires..etc))...because i bought it offa some dirty old man in hawthorne..pretty ghetto if you dont know...but anyway..just yesterday i filled up my tank ((mobil..91...$3.09/gallon!!)) and the needle moved up about 3/4 full nd stopped...nd now its jus down to 1/4...nd i know that i couldnt have used that much gas...i work a few blocks away from BOTH my jobs!!...
can somebody point me in the right direction...i really dont feel that comfortable working with the gas tank..any help??..suggestions??...anything?? |
When you bought the car, was the guy that you bought it from using it daily? Or did he just have it sitting around?
I know when I got my supra, I didnt drive it for a long time. And when I finally did, my fuel would only go up to about half a tank when I know I filled it. It took some time for it to get working again. But yours could be a different story. |
first thing check your sensor is in the correct position in the tank
(unscrew the 3 screws in the plate in your trunk/boot) it should be in this position http://www.supra.co.nz/fuelsender/step2.jpg |

well looks to be in the right position.... you could unscrew it... pull it out and just wiggle the floater to max and min and see if it frees it up
while you're there you can see how much petrol is really in ur tank ;) |

thanks...:D ..but i think ill let it go for a week before i decide to mess with it..cause i dont really want to mess up the sensor...hopefully... that'll work...if not..then ill try unscrewing it nd stuff... |
i had to remove mine from the tank and carefully scratch off the "varnish" on the wrapped wire that the sender rod rubs on for it to make contact, Its been working now for 2 yrs with no issues
