my (automatic)OD/OFF dash light keeps bliking?

:eek3:my OD/OFF dashboard light keeps blinking on and off. I've never had a automatic supra before,I keep the OVERDRIVE in the on position all the time, as they tell me it wastes less gas:rolleyes2. IT starts rigth after a few minutes of diving but not all the time. When i push the button on the off position the light stays on continously. When i push it in the on position it starts blinking? again!!:frown: does any one know what can be causing this problem? and is this a serious trans problem?
the car runs good tho! a little sluggish on take off sometimes!:o

It means there's a critical diagnostic code present concerning the transmission system. Check for codes (see the TSRM for specifics, there's a link in the FAQ).

EDIT: No need for multiple threads; Threads have been merged.

mine has been doing that since my speedometer cable broke. if yours is broke fix it and problem goes away

My automatic did that when it was time for a rebuild ;; Cre is right, but looking on the unlikely but cheapest side, bad connection or switch with the O/D button. Only ever seen that once though, good luck.

O/D light blinking

Hi!
As a thought? - have you checked the transmission oil level? This is completely different to a manual transmission, and uses different oil, first start the engine, then put the gearstick through ALL of the stick positions ( P,R,N,D,2,1 ) without moving the car ,and finally back into PARK with the handbrake on ,and with the engine STILL RUNNING - take out the dipstick -it's under the inlet manifold at the rear -it has a clip holding it in place - wipe it clean and re-insert it ,remove and check the reading , this will give the correct level in the gearbox , the excess has gone to fill up the torque converter , thats why its so very high at rest. There are hot and cold HIGH AND LOW reading markers, the oil expands when hot! ,top-up if required , using a small funnel and a steady hand, through the dipstick tube with the engine stopped.

hey thanxx guys for the replys! Dam Cre YOU always come thru bro! im going to check my oil level than. Cre do you knw how to read the codes on the transmision step by step? i'll keep u guys posted on this problem. I also kinda feel like the car takes off sometimes real fast and revs high is like if i was racing somebody than sometimes takes is time taking off just crusing. and I always have the OD/ON all the time because they told me that it saves gas. another reason why it shouldnt be taking off that fast i think? hey! cre just went to the faq"s couldnt find that thread can u send me a link?

From the TSRM, step by step reading of transmission diagnostic codes.
