Tire Size for '90 stock wheels.
I'm needing to drive a supra that finally runs (but still needs some work) 150 miles. In the years it's been being worked on the very run down tires now have some dry rot. So I'm hoping to replace them for super cheap just to get me 150 miles. The only local used tires I can find are 225 70 16 (where what's on the car is 225 50 16). Will these work?

They should work on the rear, there's a good possibility that they will rub on the fronts while turning. Also this is assuming you have a stock suspension.
Keep in mind, the larger tires on the rear will affect the accuracy of your speedometer |
Thanks for the info. Yes the suspension is stock.

It is not a wise idea.
225 50 16= overall diameter of 24.86 225 70 16= overall diameter of 28.4 The result will be a higher center of gravity and more sidewall. That means your handling will suck and not to mention your speedo will be off by 10mph. Use a tire calculator like this one to compare sizes: http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.dos |
