Timing Belt

Brand new Gate's racing timing belt.

10 miles down the road car dies.

Find out later that the timing belt got 4-5 teeth ripped off it, stoped spinning the cams and so the CPS stoped giving the signal to the ECU and basically told my car to kill everything... Good thing too lol

Now what cuases this? Manufacturer defect? The belt still had the right amount of tension on it.

Crank basically new, rebalanced etc, new ATI Dampner and new titan motorsport adjustible cam gears with BC 272 cams... on a fresh rebuild. Also new tensioner

By the way, so far seems like this cuased no damage internally

Crank spins freely does not appear to have touched a valve. Hopefully everything is still straight

id say manufacture defect or a lil too much tension...the only other thing would be if the cam stopped and the crank spun the belt over.

show some pics if you can, might shed some light depending on how the damage appears.

Ill get some pics up soon as i can. Both cams still spin freely as well as the crank

Yes I would agree on making sure the cam gears spin freely . But there should not be any problems since It should be a non-interferance motor.

yea it shouldnt have had any piston to valve contact. but if a cam siezed then thats a bummer. especially with those nice, spendy 272's...

I guess thats what u get when you buy high quality parts brand new and cut no corners...

Basically exhaust cam is the culprit to this issue... Oil is getting to the intake side great but on exhuast side it stops way SHORT. Possible a blockage of some kind inside the cam or just wasnt drilled all the way thru.

Well hopefully the head is not too damaged and you only need a new camshaft.

damn...worst fear. thats a bummer man. hopefully you can get them to replace it for free, maybe the gates belt too :/
