White smoke/air intake problem?
As some of you may know i have a 1989 markIII supra that wouldnt start, after a lot of head scratching and swearing :rolleyes2 i finally managed to get it started! turned out just to be a broken earth cable! any way it starts first time all the time and sounds lovely, but the is a lot of white smoke from the exhuast when starting, and really stinks of petrol so im immediatly thinking its running rich, so pointing towards some sort of air intake problem, but am i right to be thinking this? as anyone else had this sort of problem? or know what it could be? fingers crossed its not as bad as valve guides!
many thanks in advance |
I would look into adjusting the timing...
Warm it up... Short E and T @ the Check connector... Put trans in neutral... get the timing light out... line er up @10.. lock it down... maybe that will help.... That's where I would start |
thanks for your reply, could you elaborate a little please, not quite sure i got that! also what do i do if the timing is out?
|
just make sure your ignition timing is set correctly.. Also check if you have oil around the spark plugs if you do then u probably need to replace your valve stem seals... Its not hard just time consuming and a bit tedious..

Thanks for your reply ill check the plugs, how do I go about checking and or setting the timing? Ain't done that before! Cheers
