things i'm thinking about getting:
-flex-a-lite dual electric fan (i think that's what the name of it is) -spark plug wires -coil? Is this a pretty good combination of upgrades for a 91 N/A(moneys tight, student)? what kind of plug wires should i get? also should i upgrade my coil? another question is about that baffel in the air intake tube, what is it for, does it have to be there? if not can i take a tube and bend it to fit? i'm new to supras so any info is greatly appreciated

I don't know Supras, but I like to think I have a general gist of cars.
Fans are always nice to keep it cooler, plug wires are worth at(for performance vehicles) 50 or 60 thousand miles. And in my other car I noticed a decent gain when I put a stronger spark into my car. So the coil prolly wont hurt. ![]() |

1) Baffle, you mean the large, round, black plastic one, over the exhaust manifold? I left mine on to help keep the heat out of the intake, since its right over the exhaust.
2) Factory Coil is very 'hot' as is. 3) For an N/A, any 'better' set of wires from a parts store will work. ($65) 4) Spark plugs..I've had good success with Autolite, & NGK. ($18) 5) More power...2.5" cat back exhaust system, ($150) and K&N air filter ($40). |

The engine is just an air pump. Make it easier to get in and out. Better air cleaner does help. Make sure your compression is pretty equal and then make sure your cams are timed right on. If the belt stretches, it will effect power, usually losing low end power and gaining upper end by retarding the cams.
Get good fuel in it and get the timing as advanced as you can get and still starts smoothly. Too much timing and it will be hard to start and can run hot, so a better cooling system would be a necessity. Definately a better exhaust system, bigger and headers. You could even block off the EGR valve if you don't have to worry about emissions, your lower end power would go up a bit from that. Of course NOS and turbo charging would be great too. Good luck Russ |
