New Head gasket and now it's blown

So my 7mge was rebuild by this shop and I guess they didn't do something right for the HG so 2,500 miles later it blows. So now they r on the hook to fix it. They asked me if I want arp bolts or studs because my old bolts might be the problem. So which do I pick and what torque for both. I had 75lbs on the stock bolts and Im using a stock HG.

The old bolts should have been fine. They're not torque to yield fasteners so unless there is pitting or they don't measure at the same length you should be all set... That having been said, I don't like to rely on any fastener that old; Especially if the engine's over heated at any point.

Studs offer a higher clamping force and more consistent torque readings with less possibility of striction.... Plus if they're dumbasses and didn't chase the threads in the block (which can REALLY screw up torque readings causing you to torque FAR below your target) you will still achieve a close enough level of torque to not worry. Unless you're having the block and head milled you need to stick with the stock HG. The head should have been milled the last time so a good cleaning and lapping of both head and block are really all that should be needed as long as there's no warpage to either.

sounds like every time ive let someone else work on my car.....

sorry to hear that. cre is absolutely right. Though if you are having the work done by a mechanic/shop there isnt much you can do besides tell them how stupid they are and that they should try ACTUALLY doing the job right.

If it wasnt for the warranty i would say switch shops.

good luck!

Check them out. http://www.jbsautomachine.com
This is where my motor was built. They do good work I guess just not on imports. Also they said everything was good and no pitting or warpage. Then they ordered a set of arp studs and a head gasket from a place that Specialize in import cars.
