Passenger seat won't lock, slides back and forth

I've taken the seat out and found that the cable that's supposed to attach to the lever sliding thing is broken off. How would I go about fixing that without replacing it (low budget).

Because I can't manually push down the lever and lock the seat. Unless someone can offer a alternative solution of some sort.
