Supra oil capacity 7 quarts?? Need dipstick measurements, please!

my 86.5 supra takes 7 quarts before the dipstick begins to read. i am thinking that my dipstick or dipstick tube is the wrong length? it would be great if you could supply me with measurements of the dipstick and dipstick tube. thans!! :D

Absolute capacity is 5.2 US qts.; You don't see that much come out or go in after an oil change though.

Are there any aftermarket components on the vehicle which may account for the higher capacity? Oil cooler, an accusump perhaps?

This belongs in the MKIII Generation discussion forum, I'll move it there.

Is the stick still relatively straight? The tube doesn't enter at oil level and a significant curve may cause a low reading.

well we dident put any after market parts on besides a new oil pan, but it was identical to the original one. we dry filled it with the new oil pan to 7 quarts before the dipstick showed anything.
and thanks. im new to this forum thing lol

Heh, you didn't use a gasket on the pan, did you?

Well, I'd love to check measurements for you, but I don't have one any more. Hopefully someone will run out and check theirs for you though.

nope, just a sealer. but that wouldn't account for the 2 extra quarts... but thanks!! i think im going to just drain it, put 5.2 quarts in and make a new dipstick

Lol, do you have a pic of the dipstick? I think I might actually know the bends in the handle by heart.

No, a gasket wouldn't account for the extra oil.. not by a long shot. I presume it would be too much to hope for that there's a part number stamped on it, huh?

I measured one I got out of a 91 7mge and the only markings as far as a number is a 7 stamped between the rivets below the stopper. It measures about 13 and 1/8 inch from the bottom of the rubber stop where the top of the tube would be to the tip.

Thanks 907mge!

thanks 907mge! il check it tomorrow and see if thats my issue

well the dip stick was the right length. but it seems as tho its a turbo motor minus the turbo. theres studs on the exhaust manifold and it looks like there is 2 places were the dipstick hole could be. one under the exhaust manifold or more towards the front of the engine. mines towards the front. therefor its reading different parts of the oil pan. ik this isent the original engine so im quite curious as to what the previous owners did
