deciding on whether to buy a new engine or a diff. car
ok I had some bad news about my supra ... the engine caught on fire but it wasnt a complete burn only the wires was damaged but my mechanic changed the wires for me and then later told me the the engine had no oil in it while I was driving, so the engine is completely unrepairable. The question today i need advice on is whether too buy a new engine, I had a 1988 7mge in the car b4, and if so which engine should i buy(want to stay in the supra family), or buy a new car and sell my supra for parts.
PS, im a college student and i dont have an endless amount of money but i do have around $2,000 in the bank and like $2000 i owe for my car loan. |
this is to bump,
but i personally like the supra 7m engines... you cant get 1000 horse power out of them but you can get maybe 530? i cant remember you got 2000, thats well enough for a 1jzte or maybe a 2jzte but id stick with the 7mgte, rebuild it and put a bigger turbo on it.. or just buy a 7mge and rebuild it.... and dude, check your oil! lol |
7m-gte

ok then i know form other ppl that the 2jzte is an expensive engine but very powerful, ( my mechanic said he could get me an auto 2jzte for about $1700) and my plan for the car if i keep it is probably go to the 400-600whp. Also i talked to my mechanic today and he found a hole in the bearing under the car so, from the time he poured oil in the car to the time where he sat in the drivers seat the oil poured out.

pic info
that pic form above is where the fire came from

i beliueve you can get that much hp out of a 7mgte,
i dont know tho, how did the fire start? i didnt know fires could start from no oil? |
there was oil in the car, when my brother was driving it, Side note: this stuff only happens when other ppl drive ur car, and told me he saw smoke coming from the drivers side and he pulled off to the next exit of the highway and opened the hood and fire happened. smh Anyway, there was oil in the car i changed the oil this jan. and it never used alot of oil, my assumptions is that the one of the cylinders exploded or something and caused a huge hole in the bearing thats under the car now. The hot oil lands on the slightly exposed wires and caused the fire.

7m?
Everyone on here seems to think its a good idea to stick with the 7m jw whats the reasoning behind it?
|
A 2jz is a very nice upgrade but will cost you alot more than 1700 til you get it installed with everything required. The 7mgte would be your best bet but will still be pricey if you want to go for 400 to 600 whp which is alot taking into account a 15% drivetrain loss. And you will also need the r154 which will probably not come with a jdm 7mgte. So are you doing the swap yourself if you do one and do you still owe the money on the supra?
|
my reasoning behind it is that a friend of mine fully upgraded and rebuilt a 7mgte and a put a bigger turbo on it..
he smashes on the new corvettes and keeps up with a 2jzte with no problem |
