Default Should I buy this?

Owner says it just had the HG, T belt, and clutch done.

Says it needs an alternator, a BOV, fluids and a little TLC.

Lists the car has
CT26 turbo
5 speed w rear LSD
195k on clock
New HeadGasket and all upper intake gaskets
New Timing Belt
New stage 3 clutch IIRC
Bomz Racing Cone filter
shaved door handles
Pioneer HU and speakers
white edition sawblades

He wants a grand, I have a spare grand and have always wanted an MK3 but I have never had or worked on a Turbo car, so for a newb, is this straight up fix that I could do. I do have some ability to fix car problems, but have never pulled a engine and never done a rebuild before(Doesn't need it, just stating what I believe my mechanical abilities to be).

What he said engine looks like right now.

FWIW it's an 89 and a 5 speed

What I'd be seriously asking myself if it supposedly just needs those few bits, is why doesn't the guy just get it running to prove it's all good & raise the price a few hundred?

After all it doesn't need the most expensive bit listed (alternator )to run so surely after all the work of replacing the HG it's not too much to ask to fill the fluids, fit a BOV & crank her up to prove no nasty noises/good oil pressure/HG not leaking from the get-go etc etc...

IMO it could be a good deal but equally it could be a money pit & judging by the "paint job" on the motor it's owned by what we in the UK would call a bit of a charver. Could just be the guy has no taste but I dunno. Really it needs looking over by someone who knows Supras (and to be in running order) to decide if it's worth having or not.

I suppose you could look at it a different way & say well, if the bodywork's sound, the cars mostly complete & you really want it then negotiate a price you're happy with & buy it assuming the worst of the engine. Then if it turns out to be good its a bonus.
And yeah if you have the basic skills and a degree of patience there then it's no worse than any other car to work on (specially with the top class help on here & in the TSRM) and as long as you work methodically & take care to do things properly you'll be able to get the thing up to scratch.

Really it's up to you (and ideally a clued up friend, for an objective view) to go over the car & decide if you want it or not. If you do, the help's here to sort whatever problems arise.

Best of luck whatever you decide
