tranny and rear end question
 

How strong is the supra turbo tranny? I mean how much power can they hold before problems show? Same with the rear end? What are the problems I should be aware of and how to prevent them.

Any help would be great.

i dont know i have 417 dynoed and it is fine with a stage 3 clutch, The trany is tough as shit i drive 200 miles without tranny fluid thankx to a gay homo garage and the tranny stopped shifting then i stopped at wal-mart and put fluid in it and its still going, but its rough.

The tranny is pretty strong, as long as you don't miss shifts at high speed (good way to kill any tranny). The rear end is pretty durable, though i have heard of the limited slip going out, and they do sometimes fail, but the gears are the same as the ones used ont he trucks, and I can tell you first hand, as long as someone isn't dumb and replaces the oil seal without torquing the nut down right, it should be fine (previous owner on my truck did that, pinion nut backed out, shred 4 teeth off the pinion, but it STILL DROVE, not until one of the broken teeth started rubbing did i know something was wrong)

More than likely you'll burn up a clutch way before the other parts will go out...

Thank you guys ...thats the info I needed. I will be custom adapting this to my 94 ford probe gt. This obviously will be eliminating my weak front wheel drive tranny for a stronger rear wheel drive set up that will be more streetable.

This winter I will be building my motor and tuning with Megasquirt...engine managment system. Looking for around 500hp. I just needed to make sure I wasn't eliminating one problem for another. I have access to a 91 pearl white targa top turbo supra 5spd as a doner car. It has a blown head gasket...imagine that. Getting whole car for 500 bucks.

Was going to use a third gen supra tranny but there to hard and expensive to come buy. My other choices was also a awd skyline tranny which would have been set up for right hand drive...which wouldn't work for me. Also choice of a wrx tranny or a mazda gtx 323 awd tranny. Found out the mazda tranny also has weak points also once you start pulling some serious power. I chose to go the supra route because of the close similarity in the flywheel and I had't heard any negative feed back regarding its strength. Hopefully all goes well.
