Some questions about my 89 supra
Hey guys I just recently bought an 89 supra n/a with the 7mge motor. I am planning on doing sone work on it. I went to have the car looked at by a bodyshop in my area. They said the car was solid but the paint was shot and is cracking everywhere. The car would have to be brought down to bare metal and repainted ($6000-$6500 quote) I also want to do some work to the motor to get it a bit quicker. My main question is do you guys think it's worth the money to paint this one and do work on the motor? Also what do you guys recommend as far as upgrades to the motor for power? I am looking to do this over time as a project.

No in Baltimore, Maryland it was a place called JE imports i ask I'm how about rebuild my 7mge he said 6,000 I said what u crazy and hung up the phone

Yes that is very high. I rebuilt my old 7mgte for 2200 I just used oem pistons bored 30 over and went with a new t4 turbo. You should just do a jz swap ur self its really not that hard minus the electrical. which only took me 4 hrs but I do electrical everyday on aircraft. but what a difference the jz is. u can tell just working on it. I did the timing belt an what not just for basic maintince and u can tell. Huge difference in engineering the jz is a lot better built with no weAk spots turbos being the closest weak point and that's only if u try to over boost them. and the use of a catch can for the pcv also prolong the life of the turbos

Yea I just had my 7mge rebuild somewhere else for 1500$ I plan on getting a second supra later down the road and plan to swap it out for a 1j or 2j but this one is my daily driver and don't want to keep it off the raid that long to swap it out

The price for prep (down to bare metal), primer, numerous coats of color (ask how many?) and clear coat (ask how many?). Assuming the paint job is first class, is not out of line.
Provided this is done by a company who will stand behind the finished product (key point). And guarantee satisfaction. A COMPLETE, well done paint job is not cheap. You need to decide if it is worth, the cost, for your desired MKIII. |

I want to turbo it. I was thinking a 1jz swap or even a 2jz swap. I may just go 7mgte though not quite sure. I want to swap it to a manual too. If I do a motor and trans swap I am going to buy the motor and trans work on it out of the car an then swap it in when I have it the way I want and rebuilt. That way I don't have the car off the road except for just having the swap done. I also want to swap out the 4.30 rear for the 3.73 or something different. That should also give me a bit of performance as well

I don't know exactly how many coats of paint and clear but the guy is a shop for BMW and I have seen his paint jobs and they look like the car rolled out of the showroom even years after they were painted. He really does amazing work. I am debating having it done cause even though I am going to drive the car I also want to take it to some car shows in the area.
