I need opinions 1988 MKIII supra

I'm about to put 1000 down on a MkIII supra 1988 with 208000 miles on it and 5 speed manual transmission.
the full price is 2700 for it.
the body is in great condition with little to no rust on it and the engine seems to not be having any leaks.
i took some pictures of it but there on my dads phone at the moment and i can't get them off yet.
anyway anyone have any suggestions on what i should look for in this car.
common problems, certain sounds, anything like that.
i'm totally new to the supra i've wanted one for quite some time now but couldn't realize my dream until a tree fell on my old car and put me out of even having a vehicle.

+1 I only paid 1600 for a 89 turbo targa with 180k and no rust at all. Keep shopping or offer him just the grand

the rust spot isn't on the actual body of the car its on a little piece of metal where the windshield sets on. i think i should offer 2000 if i could pay that up front but the person isn't a dealer and they are willing to work with me and let me make payments.

No offense and im not tryin to be rude but the windshield sits on the body and thats the most expensive spot to repair. And he is willing to take the 1k down and take the chance of u not paying the rest cuz really a grand is all its worth with that many miles. Now if the motor had been rebuilt then is jump on it. if its the turbo model. is it turboed? You'll prob be lucky to get 1 yr of babying the car with that many miles. Mine has 184k on it and the motor blew a headgasket which these motors are famous for... where u located in the US? There is a twin turbo 1jz for sale in Canada for around the same price. For sale on this forum. Now I'm not sayin don't buy it just saying plan on it nickel and diming u till the motor pops. And it may go forever but. These motor are more then famous for blowing headgasket well before that many miles. Just my 2 cents

I bought my supra for $500 with a spun rod bearing. But i was in the market for a project car anyway. But I also have the know how to fix everything. 208k MI is alot, and just to prove the head gasket problem, I blew one out about 500 MI after rebuilding the engine. So its a risk you take with these motors. Still a fun car to have. Has there needed to be any major engine work done to it?

its not the turbo model its the NA model and they have papers saying the motor was rebuilt at about 170k miles.

That should make it better but there is the tranny that could be goin out plus all the steering, ball joints, driveline, brake components, rear diff, axles, shocks i mean the list goes on and on for parts that wear out. I wouldst pay more then 1500. But I'm not looking for one or need another one. But I bet u could find a turbo model with less miles for around that. Like said I only paid 1600 but good luck to ya. And u will love a supra trust me. But they do get spendy. I just spent 4100 on a 1jzgte swap. Worth every penny though

i'm gonna offer 2000 and see what they say cause the car body is in really good shape and the engine seems to be in good shape as well. if they have papers showing the latest trans tune up and other stuff i'll let you guys know.
i really really want this car and the people are willing to work with me on getting it. since i don't have the entire 2700 at the moment.
but if they would be willing to take 2000 for it i can get that this weekend.
