1987 Toyota Supra 7M-GE engine whine

Hey everybody, I've recently done a rebuild on my 7M-GE 87 supra. Basically it's got a very loud an irritating engine whine coming from the intake side. The noise is excruciating when you let off the gas so I'm thinking it has something to do with vacuum. The car starts but the only way to keep it running is by peddling the throttle. PLEASE HELP! :(
I have a video posted on YouTube which van be found here to listen and try to diagnose the noise

It acts and sounds like a vacuum leak, get some WD-40, carb cleaner or brake clean, spray in the general area it is coming from, if it momentarily stops you know it is a vacuum leak... :rant2:

I was hoping it would be as simple as that, I have tried it and it didn't really do anything, but it's hard enough to keep the car running by peddling the throttle. :/

oh for the love of god.. get that screaming kitten out of your engine!

wtf seriously? sounds like something from hell is living inside your car.

Yeah I know! That's why I'm asking for other opinions on diagnosing this hell kitten in my engine :( PLEASEEEEE!!!!

It the throttle plate closing all the way when the throttle is released? Is there the appropriate amount of slack in the throttle cable?

Run an unlit propane torch or spray carb cleaner along the flange unions of all of the intake components while the car is idling. When it buckles/hiccups you've found a leak. BE CAREFUL!!!!

You should also pull the idle speed control valve and make sure it's clean without obstruction.

How is the car's idle?

Bigbens06 09-01-2010 04:48 AM

Well the car is soo hard to keep a constant idle because the Rpms jump erratically even if you have your foot in a solid position on the gas. I have tried the carb cleaner and it seemed to do nothing :/

Just finished tearing down the entire intake side again, checking all gaskets and vacuum lines, everything seems to be in order...put it back together and it continued to do this

The idle air control vavle was just replaced 3 days ago.

I know it's got to just be something stupid and easy and I will not give up until I have found the problem :/ thank you for the input though, hopefully I get some more responses with other opinions :)

heres the tsrm for isc

and this one is for the air induction system.
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...aspx?S=FI&P=94

are you sucking in un-metered air between the afm and throttle body? that would cause shit idle. seen you said you checked all the way up and down the induction system tho.. :(

id check the resistance for the isc. might be a chance that even if purchased new.....

Bigbens06 09-01-2010 02:48 PM

It has to be sucking air in or letting it out somewhere between the air flow meter and intake ports on the head. Looks like I replaced the vavle closest to the throttle body and not the isc, gonna check that out and get back with everybody. Thank you
