Ya i understand that completly.... The noise stops in gear while stopped i beleive its due to the rpm bein lower as soon as i go above 1000 it starts.. torque conv. makes sense also cuz it sounds like the noise is rotating. like chunks of metal rolling around in a drum. im still gonna try cats. if it is the tranny ill run it till she breaks i plan on R154 swap as soon as i can find one someone will ship. the car actually shifts really well except on decel. it like it engages then disengages

Mmmm, that engage/disengage does point towards trans issues... but only on decel.... or perhaps it would "hunt" between gears at certain steady speeds sometimes & you just haven't experienced that yet...
Either way I think that if you're planning a manual swap, you have the best idea so far in getting your moneysworth out of the autobox while you accumulate the R154 bits, but maybe try checking &/or changing the trans fluid & filter (what does it look/smell like by the way?) and have a look over the adjustment of the cables (kickdown & shifter) to see if there's anything awry there first... P.S. Actually, I'm sure there was some kind of diag you could do on the gearbox in TSRM but I can't find it, usually if there's an electronic fault though the O/D light flashes... EDIT-: Ah, found it!!! http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...aspx?S=AT&P=14 |
So it don't look like we'll get to find out what the noise was caused from.... let the wife drive it to work and I have now become a victim of BHG. I ain't messin around with the 7mgte anymore although I know it can be a bad mother hugger... I have built two of them but I need a more reliable daily driver for more then 100k. Without needing to rebuild. so my 1jzgte front clip with 86000km or around 52k miles on it will be here on weds.
