Oil Pan question

Hello, I just bought a 86.5 7mge w/ a BHG. The car has been sitting for about 5-6 months w/ the bhg before i purchased it. As I'm tearing it apart, my dad sugguested to drop the oil pan and pump. Is that really nessicary or can i just do 2 oil changes after i finished reassmebling?

Also do you really need to pull off the crankshaft pully while doing this? Timing is in good condition.

Thanks in advance :D

How deep you need to dig is going to depend on how long it's been before the contaminated oil was drained... if it was sitting the whole time I'll pull the engine and inspect the rod and main bearings as they've probably been eaten. If it was promptly drained there may be pitting in the bearings but it should run well enough for a good amount of time, especially since it's N/A.

No, if you're just working on the top end you do not need to pull the pulley... only need to do that if you're doing the timing belt or pulling the crank out.

Yeah finished getting the head off... From the looks of it and a gut feeling imma go ahead and rebuilt it... But aleast it will last through college this way.....

The TSRM says to pull with tranny but i already have the head off... is there a way to pull just the block or will i have to reattach the head to pull?

You can use a couple of head bolts, if you have spares, to anchor the lift chain to the block, no head required...

also pulling the tranny and engine @ the same time is easy.
its also alot easyier to put the tranny back on when its swinging from a chain.

and its a pretty tight fing space to get the tranny off while its in the body
