OK well here we go again =S
ok so here we go with another interesting excursion! i need to do rod bearings on my 87 N/A the thing is is that i don't reapeat don't want to pull the motor i was examining how i could do this but it seems i would have to lift the motor up fck.... ok well anny help is greatly appreciated =D

Pulling the engine on a N/A is easy, should only take you a couple of hours. Plus it will make the whole job much easier, as well as allow you to inspect all of the wiring and vacuum lines that you can't see with the engine in the car.
|
Just swapping the poin pan and oil pump with the engine just lifted is a miserable hell and takes hours longer than it should. Besides, if you pull it you can replace all the oil seals and the mains as well and just be done with it all.

no cherry picker
there is only . Issue i dont have a cherry picker and might not be able to get . Plus

You can't lift the engine high enough to get at everything you'll need to without a hoist... forget it.
|
They don't have tool rental places where you are? Before I purchased my picker, I rented from a place near where I work. They charged $35 a day, but were not open on Sun. I could pick it up on Sat. morning and return it Mon. morning for the one day rate. Timing it right, I pulled two engines and dropped one back in this way on a single weekend once (pulled bad motor, pulled donor motor, and dropped donor motor back in original car.)
Call around. I'll bet you can find one. |

Hardest part on the Turbo motor pull for me was the darn exhaust nuts/bolts. Especially the elbow....
There was also some frustration with the oil return line, I believe... Other than that, it was relatively simple. Use lots of penetrating oil. LOTS!!!! |
i was just wondering if any1 knows where to lift the engine from does any1 have any special points that the engine should be lifted from? just to be clear i will NOT be pulling the transmission with it! =D
|
There should be a hook plate on the alternator mount right where the alternator bracket bolts to the engine on the front right, and another hook plate on the far left corner of the engine in the back. These are the lift points the factory used when they installed the engine.
