89 supra to 86 front bumper

Been a member of the forums for a while, owned my 89 for a couple years now. Most of the time its been sitting wrecked unfortunately :( but a pair of 86's showed up at the pick and pull near me this past week so i grabbed the front bumper and 2 fenders. I've been reading around and notice alot of people switch the older ones for the new bumpers. i was thinking it would get a little better airflow to the intercooler and radiator with the open grill in the front. any ideas or comments?

personally, I like the pre 89 bumper better, i think its more agressive. I had a an 89 front for a while but went back to the 87 front after a couple months. You will need the grill and front turn siganls to complete this front end.

agreed the 89 bumper is nice looking.

everything should fit up fine and mount exactly the same, if yo uneed help for removal or installation let us know, i could take a picture of the 2 spots that hold the front bumpter on, and the fenders are easy as pie.

I've read on here about a year ago that the bolt holes aren't quite in the same spot between the 2 bumpers, and that some mild modification would be needed...

I'll see if I can pull up the thread I read that in when I get back from work tonight

That's true and drilling a dozen new holes into a reinforced, high tensile steel is HORRIBLE!!! If you want to swap bumpers just swap the support too. You'll also need to swap the nose piece.

And here's a link that should provide adequate information on major differences between the two bumpers.

Awesome. yeah i snagged the nose piece already, going back ot get the front supports If there is a thread somewhere of a how to new bumper to old one that would be awesome, i figured i would have .to drill a couple holes at least. Definitely didn't think it was gonna be that much of a pain in the.... just to get the bumper off. Will put some pictures up as im putting mine back together

Pulling the bumper isn't bad at all if you pull it all as one unit... pulling the bumper cover by itself is more work.

yeah i got just the cover probably...
