EMERGENCY HELP! OIL + Doh! moment = Sh!t
 

My 88 supra n/a m/t (no mods) is in question here..
First I filled the oil up, oops to much, maybe 1 cm over the full line. Drove it like 20miles (hard)..
Doh! Now I have nasty smoke coming out the back. It's just the oil leaking from somewhere near the back left of the motor (facing it from a deer's point of view, or outside in), I guess near the bottom of the manifold area. Anyhow, oil I found dripping out of the area (I cannot see it due to the heat shield, or whatever the big piece of metal blocking my view). It drips down right to the ground. Well, at least I guess it's some of it. The rest gets burned off and comes out the back white smoke! It even smells like burning oil.

Do I simply drain out the extra? How do I do that? Where is this leak actually coming from since I over filled it? Should I just get an oil change? It was due in another 1000 anyways. Any ideas to any damage I may have caused?

The 7M is fairly forgiving when it comes to overfilling, but you're pushing it at that degree... Of course you'll need to drain the excess out...The TSRM (linked to all over this site, including in the MKIII FAQ section) shows where the oil pans drain plug is and the torque spec for retightening it.

Overfilling can cause seals to blow, but if you've got smoke something out the tail pipe the overfilling only finished the job of blowing a head gasket that was about to blow anyway... BUT, it's not a given that the smoke is oil. What color is it? In the light coolant smoke looks white, oil smoke has a bluish tint on a grey color, and excessive fuel looks black or dark grey with little to no color cast.

If you lost a seal other than the HG due to overfilling, removing the excess oil probably isn't going to help. With NEW seals their soft and pliable nature makes them resilient.. they may rebound from the excessive pressures with no problem or merely a reduced lifespan... old seals are another story. Drain the excess and pray.

Did oil change, engine flushed! Smoke gone. Thank god! The color of smoke was closer to the blue and smelled like burning oil. Seen it even dripping on ground and on the pipes from the engine leading to the exhaust.
