Question about Turbo exhaust on NA
Hey guys. I know for a fact this topic has to have been covered on here at some point but i simply can't find it... I found a few threads on what exhausts are best but I can't pinpoint the question I need answered. Please be patient with me :)
I got a 1990 NA Supra from Ohio (they don't have emissions there) and I need to get it inspected here in PA. I need exhaust to pass inspection. I so luckily found a person who has stock exhaust (the whole thing) from his Turbo model. Will the catback (including the cat) bolt up to a NA car? I know people will put turbo exhausts on their NAs sometimes but will the stock catalytic converter all the way to the muffler fit on my NA? If so I am saved... :) Let me know guys! I apologize for my noobery :( |
the NA dosnt have the same downpipe as the turbo.. so if your talking from second cat back then yes.. hell as long as it fits.. if not buy an adapter flange.
Thanks green for not hating on me. Haha
see how the exhaust is seperated at the cat here. http://images.craigslist.org/3n93k23...c483041168.jpg I need that cat and then the cat back. Make sense? Would that go on my NA? It is the stock exhaust from a turbo model MKIII |
the shorter bended piece won't work.. thats for a turbo, its called the downpipe. that is different on an NA.. as for the (the long piece attached to the muffler) I would think that would work fine.. if it dosnt fit.. buy an adapter flange. cut the second cat off the down pipe and attach it to the longer one..
Yeah, that downpipe attached to the cat I don't want. I know that much :D So I can take that cat, the pipe with the resonator, and the muffler and it will fit? :D
yea.. if not get an adapter flange.. all depending on what remaining pipe you have on your NA.. if your NA pipe is smaller go get a flange that fits. problem solved.
Thanks Green. You were a huge help here!
ask your budy with the peiced out turbo if he has an accordion hose.
The cat and cat back are the same on turbo and non turbo the only difference is the downpipe. So as long as no one has welded any thing together you should just need new gaskets. Use penetrating fluid and let it sit to help break the bolts loose.

YOu guys are champs. Thank you so much!

The cat's are different. The GTE's is large and flows a greater volume. You should be able to bolt it up just fine though, the flanges are the same size IIRC, just might have a little trouble lining up the exhaust gasket so there aren't any leaks.
well with the larger cat on an NA.. would your emissions test suffer?
Not at all. They're built the same way. The GTE's is just larger and as such has more catalyzing surface area capable of processing more gas.... could *possibly* make for even better emission scores. The only real reason they didn't use that one on the N/A's too is that the materials inside are so costly.. so, you go with the smallest you can get away with.
