My 2 cents, don't try. Find a GTE engine in good shape if you must, but turbo'ing a N/A is generally more trouble than it's worth.

Even if you were to turbo a 7mge, it would be wise to rebuild it first. So why go to the trouble of messing with the non turbo and just buy a 7mgte . The 7mgte in many ways is built better for a turbo already.

The only difference in the block with the NA vs turbo is that the turbo has oil squirters. However the GE electronics might be a pain to work with when going turbo. I think CRE had a setup like above. Anyway, i think its better to go with a 7mgte swap and save all the hassle.

CRE also blew a hole in a piston at lower boost than a GTE would take due to the GE's higher compression. If you do go N/A-T, at the very least add a thicker HG. The GE electronics aren't as good of a starting point as the GTE.. you'll be playing catchup and spending money on components you could have otherwise spent on upgrades.

Save up and swap in a GTE.

yeah i had the engine rebuilt already and its gonna be at least 2 grand to turbo it myself. im thinking if i find some parts at a scrapyard that are in decent shape ill save some cash but swapping seems like a great idea. thanks a lot y'all!

The above link lists parts, etc.. to do it. Dont know how accurate it is, but it makes good reading.
