Canister???

Can anyone tell me what the canister thats-bolted to the block, under the intake manifold, and right over the right motor mount is?? It is a goldish looking can that is bolted sideways.

Do both n/a and turbo motors have them?

Thanks

I think your talking about the hard line for the fuel line it links the line from the body to the motor. If that is the one your talking about.

I would have to post a pic later, but, it almost looks like the power steering res but it bolts sideways and its right in between the lower intake mani part and the motor mount. It has a couple of vac lines to it I believe.

Vaccuum canister to operate the butterfly in the main section of the intake.

I concur, the vac canister for the ACIS system is most likely what he's referring to... and no, GTE's do not have the ACIS nor the canister.

Ok cool deal guys. I couldnt figure out why there was one one the nas I took out of the car.

I saw that the na motor had 3 knock sensors on it with only one connected. I started to figure it might have been a turbo block converted to an na.

The sensor holes are not tapped in they did belong there and it looks just like my turbo block. Therefore I did not know if both na and turbos had them or not.

Thanks a lot for the info

Nothing. The GTE and the Cressida's GE weren't lucky enough to get that system. It provides a second torque/power scale by modulating the intake acoustics (basically it's a trick of physics that allows the effect of multiple length runners without all the extra components and valving). It switches between modes (per Toyota's literature) at about 4000RPM thus providing you with more power and torque in the lower RPM than the engine would otherwise see (such as in the Cressida)... it's not so much an issue with the GTE as it begins building boost around 2K RPM (yes, the manifold pressure coming up to ambient pressure IS still boost)... so people forgive the sluggishness below that... besides... who ever drives with the RPM below that when they're trying to move fast??

The GTE and GE are the same block. The GTE just undergoes more machining after casting. Both have the three bosses for knock sensors (but GTEs will only have two drilled and tapped and GE will only have the middle one drilled and tapped), both have the bosses for the turbo oil feed and drain, but again, not drilled and tapped on the GE and so on.
