There is really no other way to go about the replacing the center support bearing....you have the following options:

1. Buy OEM from Toyota, yes.....it will cost you.
2. Buy from Napa or Auto parts store....you will need to modify it to fit.
3. Lastly, you can get a 1 piece steel or aluminum driveshaft....it will cost almost the same as a replacement center bearing support, just a few dollars more. Then you don't have to worry about the center support bearing.

You can get the oem one from magauto.com for about 200. Thats where I got mine, but then you'll have to install it yourself or pay someone. It probably is listed as about a 2 hour install. And while you are at it you might as well do all the universals.

In my searching, jeez o wiz, I pulled up the Horsepower Freaks 1pc. shaft.

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/part...veshafts//5545

It looks like the best way to go and not much more than the bearing, as reydio said. Are there any cons about the switch to 1 pc ? I will contact the manufacturer to ask what else is required during installation, anybody have any tips or help?

When I bought this car I said I wanted something to work on and enjoy to replace my dirt bike. Well, I got what I wanted. It's a solid car, but as well as the shaft bearing I have the following to do.

1) Pilot bearing
2) Ball Joints
3) Bushings
4) Struts, probably springs
5) Still runs a little rough from a vacuum leak

I love this car.

I found it here locally (california) for 135 bucks. at an industrial driveshaft place. It is not specific to toyotas, they crossed the number and found one for me. install took less than an hour.

That's great Carl. Any chance you have a invoice with their part number and phone number? I am about 100 miles from Atlanta so although I can remove it and try to find someone to match it, it would be allot easier with your info. That is great news, almost went for the $350 drive shaft. Your info will help save enough to repair something else. Thanks

Center Support Bearing- Possible Aftermarket Deal $150

I may have found a bearing at O'Reillys Auto Parts

Anyone have any experience with this bearing fitting without mods? It has a lifetime guarantee. Maybe this will help someone else out as well.

I think this is where I got mine from, give em a call - see what they run

http://www.drive-lines.com/index_auto.html

The oreily one looks like it is identical - punch in an 87 and see if the part numbers are the same - if so - you would be good to go.

I'm out the door - I will check it out better this afternoon

The first bearing from O'Reilly had the tabs in the wrong place. He re-ordered to be sure of the part but I expect this one will be the same. I am heading up to check it out. In the meantime, I was told by a friend at a driveshaft company that he can get me a $45 bearing and I can open my old outer and install the new rubber and bearing inside of the old cage/mount. It looks easy enough, drill out 3 spot welds and do the swap and then re-weld.

Any thoughts on this idea?

I let you know about the re-ordered bearing later.

Cheaper Driveshaft Support Bearing

O'Reilly bearing was incorrect for my car. The driveshaft shop ordered a inner bearing /rubber and peeled open the old carrier and installed the new insert. He said as long as the outer carrier was not damaged it would be fine.

5000 miles later, he was right. The carrier is working fine and even held up during the time I had a u-joint go out.

$45 is what the bearing cost me.

I was reading on another fourm about some using a bearing from a 92' Ford Ranger 3.0L, Napa part number HB209-KF, that you can also get from rock auto cheaper. The guy said it worked with no mod to the bearing, just had to add a steal bar acroos the bottom of the bearing due to the fact that the ford bearing insulation gets bolted to the crossmember and has nothing to hold the insuation in place.

I have not tried it yet, but i do plan on it.

Driftmtion.com sells the center bearing for like around 200$
