Default 2 crank seals?

Hey guys I got two crank seals in my felpro kit but only removed one the large one from the crank behind the timing gear pulley. Where does this other smaller one go? Am I missing something on my timing cover that this is supposed to be housed in? I don't see how it could anywhere unless the smaller seal is housed behind larger seal on the crank somewhere. Please respond. I can't locate the seal in book either, Could the other be the rear crank seal? Thanks, Scott

your rear main is bigger than your front crank seal are you sure it didnt come with cam seals?

Default SealS?

No they are not cam seals one matches the one I pulled and the other is the same as the one the dealer sold me that does not fit the front crank. When I called the dealer to try to get the right seal they told me it took two different seals and then they ordered the other one they said it took. I got Auto Zone to get me a Felpro kit the next day and it came with two seals. One that fits the crank and one that matches the one the toyota dealker got me that doesn't fit. Strange!

Exclamation I think I have figured out your problem!

Ok I am pretty sure that you have just been confused, thats all. There may have been two available crank seals available for the front crank seal, and since you had one that doesnt fit,...... it is the wrong one. The one that does fit i suggest that you install that one after removal of the one you are replacing. The only other crank seal would be the rear main, which would be significantly larger and you would have to remove the tranny to replace such seal. There is only one front crank seal, that is why you cannot find "two" in the repair manual. Also confused as the cam seals because it is a twin cam engine and would require "two" seperate seals, one for each cam. At least that is what im sticking to untill i get to work tuesday and ask some veterans, and look through the Toyota repair manual. By the way, this is Kevin from the dealership.

It's been awhile since I've been to that part of the engine, but isn't there one to seal the lower timing cover (located between the harmonic balancer and the crankshaft timing gear) and then another one behind the crankshaft timing gear to seal it from the main bearings and the rest of the rotating assembly?

EDIT- NVM, I just looked at the TSRM and there isn't one between the harmonic and the gear

Default 2 crank seals

Thanks, Yeah I don't know but my lower timing cover has nothing to hold a font seal and it seems kinda like it would leave the timing cover open for contamination the way it is. I am wondering if something is missing on my lower timing cover. I am going to go to the dealer on Tuesday and see for sure. See you at work Kevin. Scott

Could it be the oil pump drive seal? Check out 11301C on this diagram.

Default 2 seals!

Hey that drawing looks like it slightly smaller and thick. I bet that is it. I should use it then. Thanks Jim! Scott

ooops just ran the part number came back as Crankshaft front oil seal 90080-31022. Strange it's a crank seal but does not fit nor go on my car that I can see. maybe it crosses over to the oil pump seal. I will have to check with the dealer. My oil pump seal appears to be fine though.
Updated!

OK Mystery solved. The extra seal in the Felpro pack is the oil pump seal. Not gonna replace it cause it is not leaking. Not Broke? Leave it alone! The guys at the Toyota dealership sold me an oil pump seal knowing I needed a crank seal go figure! Evidently the oil pump seal on our cars also fit other cars as the crank seal.....
