Transmission and drivetrain Project
5 Attachment(s)
i started my project today...the shifter is the stock shifter but custom fabricated to be a short shifter topped with a TRD leather ball...im changing the clutch to oem exedy and the flywheel is a 15lb fidanza flywheel...the aluminum driveshaft came in at 15lb compared to the that 40lb factory DS. i was surprised to find out how heavy the stock shift and yes i have heard the vibration that sometimes comes with aluminum DS but i heard all good reviews from shaftmasters...well ill keep you guys posted and of course your input is always welcomed

Got far today

i got the r154 out and cleaned it up, much to my surprised it had been rebuilt, looks like under 10,000miles on it...i put in new gaskets and ball bearing where needed...i installed everything but have a problem that will be fixed tomorrow...air got caught in the clutch system, im bleeding out the system, putting in new fluid, along with a stainless stain clutch line...ill keep u guys updated
Will not shift, hard to shift when off and clutch pedal feels loose
Turns out we put the clutch backwards -__-
Up and Running, but battery is getting drained >=0
the car is running and i drove it for about 10mins, before the car turned off because of a short circuit...the time i did get to drive was pure bliss, the lightweight flywheel and driveshaft makes a HELL of a difference...it felt like a new engine was making all that power...other than the battery i could say transmission project is closed =)
nice job dude. you know everybody messes up sometime haha but im just joking man good job though man.
Nice thread, I've been dying to try a lightweight flywheel and driveshaft.... Figure I should focus on getting my engine running first lol
haha i wish for the same as you i have to put mine back together before i get a flywheel haha
Lol well what are some of the problems you two have?
Well, my GE has a spun bearing. So rather than rebuild that, I'm gathering parts for a N/A-T swap and getting some front end pieces I've been needing. Hopefully I'll be acquiring a 7MGTE in the near future from someone in town and then I can start rebuilding that
what do u have now?
Just a 7MGE with a W58
You should just save for the gte or better yet the 2jz. Instead of spendin money on an old engine, start fresh with an imported engine and build up from there, its worth it.
The 7mGte he is referring to is probably only gonna cost us labor. Futhermore, IMO the only way to get a 2jz is with a 6 speed attached to it and those still cost about 6k, so it will definitely be both easier and cheaper to go with that 7m.
besides me and btwilson86 are both some thrifty bitches :grinking: |
That's one route you could take but im the type to go hard or go home, im from the city that never sleeps baby lol
well i blew the headgasket. haha and now im in the process if rebuilding the top end and cleaning up a mess that the previous owner decided to make. so yeah its getting there jsut too slowly. haha
It may just be me, but I really don't think that the 2JZ has any right to be in a MKIII. For the most part, I've viewed the MKIII as a kind of "classic" car, and in that sense I'm looking to keep an OEM drive train.
Now, a 1JZ is completely acceptable, but I would rather build this Supra with a powerplant that I'm familiar with (which is 7M's) since I'm not on that big of a budget and I'm DYING to drive a Supra again lol. But I do appreciate your input, and maybe one day when I have a couple more supra's I'll tackle the 2JZ swap  |
my supra went on life support today...i was driving just fine then all of sudden something backfired, it felt like my car was be held back, i couldnt go pass 20mph and i had black smoke from the muffler...it also smelled like burnt rubber...any ideas on why all of a sudden this would happen while it was driving just fine?

Are fuel injectors a possibility?
