1990 supra vin code and crank pulley
Ok i have been all over this site and i have two questions. first is which way loosens a crank pulley bolt? and second. i bought a 1990 supra targa top with no engine, just a 5-speed trans, and the guy told me it was factory turbo so the trans that came with it should be an r154 but i didnt know the guy personaly so i need to know how i can tell if the car was factory turbo or not. any ideas?

you loosen the crank pulley bolt same way you loosen any bolt(turn it to the right), but that bolt might be on there so you would need a tool to keep the crank pulley from turning while you turn the bolt...i also wonder if my turbo came with the r154 but since everything was stock i figured they wouldn't change the trans to a cheaper one aka w154...best way to tell if yours is a turbo is to look under the hood...it should say 7mgte diagram...also if your car came stock with the 7mgte and has the turbo logo in the back then 99% chance yours has the r154

Well there are a few things but the biggest one, I have never heard of anyone installing when doing a turbo swap is ABS. Turbos came with ABS N/As didn't, so if you have ABS it's a Turbo chassis.
And the trans, the Turbo trans is big and fills up the trans tunnel, the NA trans are small lots of room in the trans tunnel. Crack bolt, a good 1/2" impact gun should take it off. There are some other way in a pinch to get it out with the engine in the car. But I'd use the impact gun. |
ABS was available in either.
#1 - counter clockwise. #2 VIN NUMBER! MA70 for nonturbo and MA71 for factory turbo. /thread. |
Also, the plate on the firewall. Gives you engine code, trans code, diff code, as well as other info. Should be near the brake booster
