7MGE swap
So over the last few months my 7mgte developed and currently has a rod knock. (i know im stupid for running it low on oil but dont hate on me). Anyway on to my point, has anyone swapped in a 7MGE in place of a gte? and if so what all is necessary for the swap. i have a complete 7mge, w58 tansmission and all wiring/ecu. I just want to know what has to be done to make the swap work.
any help is greatly appreciated. any disrespect is not. thank you |
Why would you downgrade?

I know it sounds retarded but for the milage. even 3 or 4 mpg would be better, saying im getting like 15mpg. but its also so i can start building my 7mgte. (i do have two though). And the rod knock makes me super mad and i just wanna tear down the block fix the rod knock, change the valve guides, change the timing belt, and put in a mhg.

A healthy GTE should get better mileage than the GE... they did from the factory. ;) Your horrible mileage is due to the engine problems, not the turbo.
Running a lower octane will generally increase your mileage as well. I'll try to help with individual questions, but I haven't the time to post a writeup or to watch the thred like a hawk. IMO, 95% is obvious. I recommend keeping the oil cooler setup from the GTE. ;) Are these from the same revision? Pre89 to pre89 or 89+ to 89+?? |
alright great thanks and yes they are from the same revision. both are 87s

everything should bolt in and plug in. Obviously you need to swith to the non turbo coil and all other non turbo items. You could also leave the turbo transmission in if you want.

i dont thing ill leave the turbo transmission but great and thats basically what i already knew, i just wanted to make sure. thank you for the help
