problems ofr the supra

hey, umm so i put my heater to 85 degrees to see if it warms up but nothing happens. all you hear and feel is the air coming in to the vehicle but does not warm me up.. Suggestions???

do you have coolant in the system? is your thermostat faulty? is your rad cap in working order? check those out first before we jump to worst case scenario, heater core problems.

no coolant no heat!
non opening thermostat.. no heat, does your car thermostat gauge raise toward overheating?
if your rad cap is faulty it will not open and allow coolant to pass. ergo no heat also. and again does your car gauge raise?

good luck.

This statement can be somewhat misleading, so I thought I'd point out for anyone reading this in the future that the rad cap does not restrict the flow of coolant in the radiator. It's purpose is to allow a controlled pressure in the cooling system so that it can raise the boiling point of the coolant (so it stays a liquid). Once it reaches the specified pressure, it's supposed to open slightly and allow some coolant to flow into the reservoir to maintain that pressure. After the coolant begins to cool, the pressure will drop creating a vacuum in the cooling system. This will draw the coolant from the overflow tank back into the cooling system (as long as there are no leaks in your cooling system).

lol, that was supposed to only be a quick statement. Oh well, Rad Caps 101 with Prof. Wilson

And now for an answer related to the OP's question....

It's most likely a faulty VSV on the heater control valve.

cre beats me to it once again! :)

Yeah first things first is make sure the vsv is actually opening the heater valve when you turn the heat up, then we can start worrying you with the more involved stuff! Also, any recent coolant replacement or top-up before this happened? Airlocks can be tricky to get rid of when the system's been emptied.

so i looked into the vsv for my heater problems and found this http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/t...3/DSCF0943.jpg well now i looked into the spare parts i had and found this http://i602.photobucket.com/albums/t...3/DSCF0946.jpg and was wondering what connects to it. it looks exactly to the one thats broken on the vsv
