exhaust with a good note?

i'm getting a 87 NA supra and its not an aftermarket muffler, not sure which type but its one of the "fart can" ones and don't really want that. I want a nice tuner note. what kind of exhaust should I get?

there is a very good thread about this in the faq.

megan racing makes an amazing muffler, i have a 4.5 (took out the silencer) and yes it seems a little to big but idle its not that load and it sounds great reving thru any gear.

yeah i have looked there but most of them are for turbo supras. does the pacesetter cat back sound good?

turbo or no turbo, it will still work, thay are the same from the cat back
only real options you have are pacesetter(get what you pay for), turbo exhaust, or make your own with pipe and choice of muffler

I have the hks with the dual tips which sounds really good now, should sound better with the header on once i get the top end back together

i like the HKS turbo cat back system but its like $550. I also don't mind the sound of the pacesetter cat back exhaust and the $250 price tag doesn't hurt either :)

I have a friend with the pacesetter catback on his 87 NA. It sounds decent, almost has a hybrid between tuner/exotic sound at the end of the RPMs. Not the best, but definitely not the worst.

Turbos and N/As sound COMPLETELY different.

I really liked my N/A with a 2.5" catback with no resonator and a Borla ProXS muffler. Very nice and deep, a bit of a bumble and none of that super farty $h!t all the jackasses with their 3.5" exhausts and coffee can mufflered Honda's think is so hot. Besides, too big and you'll take a performance hit. I still think I would have preferred a resonator to quiet it down further, but I went turbo before getting around to that and the turbo cut the noise down a ton.

The ideals are: as straight a run as possible (as few bends as you can manage, mandrel bends preferred), acute angles (avoid bends greater than 45 degrees like the plague), straight through resonator and muffler.

Of note too is that 7M's have a horrible drone around 2.5KRPM... a good resonator and muffler will help prevent this headache inducing nuisance.

I have the pacesetter header with a no name cat and cat back piping with a Megan Racing Muffler. Sounds nice and deep.
