Sport Mode?? Normal Mode??

So I have been driving my car in Sport mode on my 88 Supra.. I notice on the dash it says TEMS. WFT is this. It would seem there are 4 lights under that. Normal mode keeps 1 light on, 2 lights when i'm in sport. How do I get more lights on.? Whats the difference, I can't tell..?
(Yes I looked around the forums and couldn't find anything)
Also, is it bad to drive it around in only Sport mode?

According to wikipedia and another forum I saw where TEMS was in discussion regarding a Solara. TEMS stands for Toyota Electronically Modulated Suspension. Sounds like you got a norm and a sport choice you can toggle between, which effects the suspension damper rates. According to wiki, there's a third TEMS option available that only engages during wide open throttle, hard breaking and/or high speed maneuvers. Perhaps that might be what the additional row is for. That's my best guess anyways, don't have a toggle on my suspension, only my auto transmission to obtain different gear settings (shift points I believe, doubt the gear ratios can be altered on the fly). I'd imagine that one of the two light up when this third set of rules is engaged. Maybe someone can give a more precise answer, this is just a result of my wiki researching.

Edit:
Not sure since I don't have the suspension toggle myself, but I'd think it'd be ok to drive in sport normally. Would also imagine it'd be worse to keep toggling between the two suspension setups while in motion.

normal and sport is just as it states.. soft vs hard suspension is a way to think of it.

and about switching it while in motion, I thought that being a bad idea also but cant seem to find anything to confirm or deny this. and whats all this about a 4th light? im prettty sure there is only 3 but I did just wake up. ill edit this later

TEMS is a system built into the Supra that sits on top of the shock. When in either regular or sport mode the TEMS systems can turn the shock to make it lighter or more supportive depending on what you are doing. If you are going fast and break hard, the TEMS system will make the shock harder to assist in keeping control of the car. If you do this, the system lights will go from one to three lights on.

You can keep the car in sport mode if you want, it will just give you a stiffer ride. BUT, the system will only work with the special TEMS shock. If you have a regular shock or strut, it will show that it is doing something, but it is actually doing nothing.

Ya, it is only 3 lights.. Seen them come on after some smart guy decided to stop (light when at a red light) on the highway to let someone over. I hate Oregon drivers.. They are just too smart for me.. :gtfo:

I do need new shocks, struts, springs. Anyone know of any shocks capable of using the TEMS system. I would like to keep that feature going on the car.

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/view...tokicologo.jpg Tokico Illumina Shocks for the Supra MK3

http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/perf...pension/Shocks

probably should do the bushings too, this is not the only site with these struts, might want to shop around, and also it isn't much to do them

Presoak every nut and bolt the night before with a good penetrating fluid!!!

Also get some new sway bars they make a huge difference and aren't very expensive.

Holy mark up king batman! 122$ per shock... Will shop around for sure.

Yea i recently bought a parts car with less then 10,000 miles on the tokico illumina shocks, so i will let you know how they are after i put them on (in about a week). But if you like tighter suspension anyway you could forget the TEMS and go with a manually adjustable suspension. I have an 86.5 with 140K on it, and just towing the parts car i got a half mile on a bumpy road I could tell that that suspension was much stiffer. So its all up to you.

I purchased from this seller many times for all my cars and they all came out good. Price is very reasonable.
