A really weird request.

I know you guys will probably think I'm nuts but I'm building a little tube chassis car and I'm wanting to use the front and rear subframes from a 1990 Supra Turbo. The problem is I didn't measure the angle that these subframes sit in the car, before I dismantled everything.

I will be mounting them so that the wheelbase is the same as stock, 102.2". What I need to know is their angle, front to back.

Is there someone here that can park their 3rd gen (1990 preferred) on a level surface and get an angle measurement on some part of the front and rear? On the front, maybe the two large bolts that mount the subframe to the unibody? On the rear anywhere top or bottom that you can get an angle guage on easily; I have the subframes on a large assembly table.

I know this is blasphemy here but since I didn't get the inline six that came with this shell, I'll be using the Yamaha V-6 out of an SHO Taurus. I am really familiar with the SHO motor and even have one in my off road car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXlsi_VeMGo

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

EDIT: Duh! I must of had a brain fart. The rear would need the pinion flange perpendicular to the ground right? That solves the back sub frame part. Can anybody help on the front subframe angle.

Sorry, I can't be of help right now... I checked all of my references and not even the collision repair manual has any usable measurements for determining the angles. My car's lowered as well, so it's not so easy to get under.... hopefully someone with a remotely stock MKIII (they sit nice and high like a small 4x4) will get beck with some measurements.

Actually, the measurements from the ground at the front mount and the same for the rear is all you'll need... then just measure the distance between the two and you can calculate the rest; No special measuring equipment needed.

Can anyone measure those two points?

CRE,

Thanks, maybe someone on here has a stock Gen 3 that they can put a little 6 " level across those two mounting bolts for me. Just by looking at the subframe, it looks like they should be level, but I can't be sure. Thanks.

Is there anybody on here that lives in North Phoenix or Scottsdale that would let me come over and measure the angle of those two front bolts? I'll bring beer!

Big BUMP if thats ok here. this is my first post.

i'm on the forums just for the exact same reason as OffRoadSHO. i'm building the same style tube frame car and got rear supra parts but no subframe. anyone help please:bow:

whats going on Off Road SHO. i'm the same lusiphur134 as on locost with the Mitsu 4g63 build. glad to see i wasnt the only one with the follow the supra parts to the supra forum thought.

as a positive i picked up my parts this weekend and came to the same problem as you. the parts' previous owner has a stock supra but it is in a dirt driveway and we've had 2 days of rain so when it dries out i'll try to get the measurements. don't know how accurate it will be but i'll do my best.

oh also. maybe i should start a new thread for this but what are you doing about the rear brakes with the whole parking drum inside disc rotor thing. just using it stock or is there a swap to be done?

Lusiphur,

I'm using the whole rear subframe complete from wheel to wheel. The front is where I am having problems deciding how much angle to build into it's mounting. I'm suffering from the paralysis of analysis syndrome.

You guys should ask this over at Supramania... I think you'll get more response and they've got a few members with fabrication experience.

oh duh. i just kind of skimmed your first post. i re-read it. i see what you need. all the same if i get to measure my stuff i'll check the front subframe to see whats what.
just a guess but i think the upper A-arm mounting points to the subframe(the big through bolt) should be level and perpendicular the to ground. i check when i get over to the car though.
