Auto Transmission Reliability?

I would like to get some views on the mk3 auto trans reliabilty. I know before my 93 celica gts got wrecked the A/T was acting up but don't know anything about the supra A/T? And does it slow the car down compared to a 5spd?

The A154E is quite reliable. The MA71 version is a tad bit beefier than the MA70 version, so if you're swapping one in get one out of a MA71 chassis.

While an automatic transmission is almost always heavier (as it is in this case: a little heavier than the R154 and a lot heavier than the W58) it shifts faster than you can. ;) In a very high power build automatic transmissions are my preference... for general driving, I prefer manuals.

I was asking because mine has 130k on it and works fine, but have a chance to buy one with only 90k on it for $100 out of a n/a. Thought it might be worth buying.

Well, like I said, the MA71's is a little more robust, but I don't think either is weak... If pressed I'd say that the W58 is the weakest of them all. FYI: MA71 = 7M-GTE MKIII and MA70 = 7M-GE MKIII.
