New Supra owner
Hi I'm new to this forum and also the soon to be owner of a Mk.III Supra. I'm not sure as to which performance parts I should buy for my Supra. I'm not looking for anything too crazy just enough for a light horsepower gain. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Air filter, exhaust, spark plugs/wires and for a little more money but doesn't give any HP boost... a suspension always helps you go faster, and do so without losing control.

I prefer K&N filters, those are fairly easy to find at most performance shops or by searching for them online, same with spark plugs... Though I hear pulstar pule plugs really give a difference. But NGK plugs and wires are also good. You can find air filters at JDM Ultimate for about 50-100 bucks. I got 2 from them, fast delivery and didn't have any problems. All I can really say is search around, prices are different all over the place and most of those parts are easy enough to find and put in.
An exhaust? Ask some dude at an exhaust shop to make you one, its usually the cheapest but not the prettiest looking exhaust, or you can find some online for 500+ for a good one. |
If I wanted to Turbo my Supra out which Turbo would you recommend?
|
I don't really ever suggest aftermarket parts to anyone unless they have the money to do it right. But if you want to turbo a non turbo supra, you definitely want to go the way of the CT-26 and if you're looking for that aftermarket power get a 57trim from suprastore, VERY GOOD turbo I have one and swear by it at 12lbs of boost daily driving.

On the CT-26 does it take a long time to spool?
|
Also how much does a Mk.III Supra weigh stock?
|
the stock weight of the car should be found printed on a sticker on the side of the driver door. As for mods, cheapest, quickest and best options are probably cold air intake and exhaust system... Not sure if grounding straps help these late models, but they're goin' in my mk3 if I ever find out they do.
As for the new supra thread... grats on your new mk3. I see the same thing WAAAAAY too often tho, and am even guilty of it myself. Someone gets a new mk3 and gets gung ho with hopes and dreams of making it a kick ass 420hp @ the wheel beast.. Firstly, you'll only get that high of power on a turbo engine. Secondly, Toyota screwed up some info in their manuals which have caused problems in the past.. mainly the torque settings they specified for the head bolts is waaaay under torque, giving you greater chance to blow that head gasket. If you've gotten a garage kept, sunday driver, from an owner who babied the car since the late 80's/early 90's.. awesome deal. However, in the more likely event this wasn't in mint condition already, you should check things on the mk3 first. Check the radiator for flow, debris and give a pH block test to see if your head gasket is ok. Do your timing... I even had to do my timing and when I bought the car it was working great. Other than that, I think you should be ok. The 7m heats up like a forge, I'd definitely make sure the cooling, if nothing else, is up to performance levels. I still need a fan & shroud assembly (or a shroud and new fan clutch) to fix my cooling... Good luck to you.. and welcome to the wide world of the mk3 Supra. Quote:

Thanks for the advice I really appreciate it. I don't have my Supra just yet what could I take out for a weight reduction?
|
For weight reduction, its anything. Remember it doesn't matter what the sticker weight on the car is. That weight given is just the car. Don't forget that u also have weight and everything else you put into the car does too. I get a lot of hassle from my friends on how i don't have seat belts for the rear seats because "they add weight", its actually because the guy i bought the car from didn't include them.
Mostly it depends on what you dont need or dont care to have. If you dont need music playing or dont care for it, take out all the the audio systems like, speakers and etc. Or maybe you don't care how it looks inside, take out the carpets, door panels, center console and such and back seats because you wont be driving people around. Or you dont care about security/safety and take out the spare tire and jack stand and the security system and only have the lock work, and maybe you don't need cruise control, you can take the cruise control system out. Maybe you weigh a lot im talking heavy guy like me, lose some weight and your overall car weight with you in the car will be lower. Basiclly it depends on what you dont need or care or want in the car. I can help you more if you tell us what the car will be used for, daily driving, racing, motor cross, etc. Also if im sounding like a jerk i apologize ahead. |
Around to 3500lbs depending on equipment. There are a couple threads about weight reduction, just search the MKIII section for weight reduction and you're sure to find them. I posted a link to a list of components and their respective weight... it's very helpful for planning ahead.
One of the threads on weight reduction is in the MKIII FAQ section, have a look through there, you'll find a lot of your questions are probably already answered. |
No its all cool you don't sound like a jerk. I'm mostly going to be using it for daily driving but me and a buddy of mine are planning a drag race in the near future when we both have our cars set up the way we want them (he's in a '93 Miata).
