Stalling at start up

Hi. very broad problem here with a variety of answers. Ill try my best to narrow it down with an accurate description of events. (just looking for a good starting point then move onto the more difficult procedures)

often times when its either cold, hasen't been started or sometimes I could of just shut it off 5 minutes ago in 70 degree + weather. my 92 7mgte will start up and have irregular revving and sometimes stall if I don't give it gas.
I just chalked it up as 89 test octane (89? 87. whatever the regular is)
But today I started it up 20 minutes after i turned it off in 50 degree weather and it would start then immediatley shut off. (sounds like fuel pump. clogged fuel filter.. MAFs) did this 3 times.. third time I started the engine, went to FOT and it began to stagger as above started. It eventually caught, revved and became stable.

Reminds me of a time in my thunderbird when I it had below a quarter of a tank in 20 degree weather. I coulden't keep it running w/o constently holding in the accelerator. (I was 17 at the time, please hold your snickering.)
Loose distributer cap?
spark plugs-changed summer 08
spark plug wires-changed summer 08

Also I cant recall if when the car would start then shut off, if I heard the fuel pump click on. (chatting girl in the passenger seat) But did hear the *click* (and I do mean click(exact description of sound)) when it starts then staggers.
any insight or ez tests to narrow down the list of possible suspects, will like always be appreciated and as always Thanks in advance.

-edit-> I do let my car sit at idle when I arrive at my destination for a full minute up to 4 full minutes depending on outside temperature and how hard I've driven. The higher the outside temp and harder I drove the longer I sit in "cool down" mode. For this instance, tonight. early December 50 degrees total travel distance of 5 minutes going the speed limit (45) I let my car sit for about a minute before shutting it off. after the start up and dying I went to another place approximately the same distance and speed and same cool down time but again start/stall. When I arrived back home I sat for 10 seconds and shut it off to start it again with a start/stagger. (sorry for the drawn out details but Im trying to be as accurate as possible in describing the events to better diognose the problem) Really sounds like a fuel pump / clogged filter problem. Most evident starting point would be getting a bottle of "martins magic fuel" or something of the gass additive sort to see if that removes a possible cluster of debree sediments.

Well, I've got a few idea's but check for error codes first: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/TechTi...ror_codes.aspx

Then I'd check for intake leaks, test the ECU coolant temp sensor, test the AFM and test the fuel pressure.

Does this happen whenever you start the car or just when it's (the engine) cold? So, if it is 32? outside and you've been driving around... you stop, turn off the engine, run into the gas station for your favorite pr0n and come back out... does it start right back up or does it still falter?

If I stop for a quick minute it does not falter. But If let it sit for 5 minutes or more turned off it may or may not. I'm leaning more twords the cold engine falter. But there has been times when It has not cooled all the way down and starts/staggers. and yes there has been a time I remember quite clear that I ran to the gass station came back out and it staggered. it was cold outside and that was the only trip i took.

I ran a diagnostic and returned just a continual blinking light.. all's clear for the diagnostics..

I'd be inclined to suggest that the cold start injector may be blocked/disconnected, the time switch may be dodgy or something similar.

The tsrm is the first place I turn now for any info I'm after, here's a link to the csi page (the time switch is on another page which you can find by hitting the "section index" button, then it's about 3" from the bottom of the index, page FI-112) http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...ection=FI&P=77

I'd check the injector itself first as they can simply be blocked with carbon deposits

Or I guess the idle air valve could be mucky too, although this would usually manifest itself whether hot or cold...
