Spun Rod bearing

Hey guys. I am new here so be kind to me! haha

I got a 89 MKIII Turbo for 1800 with many nice bolt ons. The issue it has is it has a spun main rod bearing. I asked him a dozen times and he said he is certain that that is the issue and it was clarified by a few of his supra friends from OhioSupras.org.

My question is if it is a spun bearing, what else can I expect to be bad in there? I do plan on doing some work on the bottom end but I want to make sure I know what to look for while I am in there. I have a mechanic who I've known for years who is going to to do the labor for me for really cheap, so it comes down to the cost of parts. What are the necessities to make the bottom end strong and very reliable for around 500HP. and if its a spun rod bearing, what else would be wrong with it due to that? Thanks a ton guys I appreciate it!

No doubt the crankshaft will need replacing LINK see post 2.

I see, I tried finding where I would get a new crankshaft as well, any idea where/how much a good one will cost?

I had no luck in the UK, unless I paid top dollar, ended up buying a used engine knowing it had just had a new Toyota crank in it with a BHG. I got it really cheap so I could strip it down for the parts. You could try these guys Matt Junker jyd7171@hotmail.com 909-229-7701 or Gavin Hu autoengpart@jisengine.com 1-888-482-4734 (Both in the US) I first made contact with them in 2004, both offered me a recon crank at a reasonable price (about $175) . But as I said; I ended up buying a used engine at a lower price with a new Toyota crank in it.

Thats not a bad idea, I am sure I can find a blown motor where the crank is still good. I will also give those guys a call. Thanks a lot bud, that is good to know. Anything else? I think I may go ahead and replace the pistons and rings too... but unsure of what pistons to get.
