timing problem with knock
Ok so I just replaced my HG and it wouldn't start, double checked everything aligned right and tried it again, started right up. My problem is that now I have a really bad "repeating pinging" at my #5 cylinder that can be heard on both my intake and exhaust valve covers. I've just done my valve clearances so that is not the problem. Also my timing is WAY off. So far off that I can't adjust it enough to bring it back into specs. I was told that the fact that it is out of timing could cause the pinging. I am at a loss as to why my timing is so far off. What am I missing? My engine is a 7m-gte. I aligned my crankshaft at 0, camshafts with the notches on my timing plate #2, and the hole with the groove on my CPS. Short of a BHG I had none of these problems before. I did neglect to mark position on my gears, CPS, and timing belt before removing everything though. I have done another HG on an 88 non turbo, marking everything, and It took me 10 hours total with no lasting problems. I've been messing with my 91 turbo for months.
