I am in the middle of a complete rebuild (http://www.toyota-supra.info/forums/...e-rebuild.html)
and have been researching Head Gaskets. I bought a rebuild kit for $200 and decided to throw away the included HG because it was junk! No crush rings on the water jacket ports and looked like it going to fall apart on its own. I have found a OEM style HG at CARQUEST and NAPA for about $75 that has the OEM crush rings. Also found some metal HG at http://www.jscspeed.com/mk3/engine/headgaskets.htm which run about $140. And don't forget should use new Head Bolts at $100/set Here is my opinion - all the work to teardown and redo a HG is hours of effort and money. Why waste all that just to save $20-$40. If you are doing the HG you might as well do the timming Belts and have the valves done which is going to cost $400 to $600 anyway. Not to mention the OIL, COOLANT, PLUGS, HOSES and more. And forgot to add in HEAD BOLTS at $100 Buy the best HD you can find and save the worry on doing it again in a few monts |

I bought new headbolts from toyota it only ran like 60 and my valve job, and head work was only 200 and they did an awsome job. Anytime you do a HG you should change fluids and do the timing belt, tensioner and water pump, and since you have the parts off inspect and if they look hard to change go ahead and replace, Alot of my parts looked newer anyway cause the previous owner had replaced them so I wouldnt replace parts for the sake of replaceing but if it looks worn replace it. By the way oreagonjoe your build looks really good, been keeping an eye on it looks nice.

Where can I get Head bolts for $60? The only ones I've found were ARP bolts at $99. As to head job price - I know my $400 is way too much but where I live - I'm lucky to get it done at all. Its a good shop for american work but they kind of rag on me about touching forgien heads. Anyway - my price did include all the tank cleaning of the intakes and redecking the block and flywheel.
