call me nuts, but i have a horse power dream.....

ok, so... i got this crazy idea in my head that i want 500 horse power in my 1986.5 mkIII supra, its non turbo by the way. realistic or not, do you guys have any suggestions as to most cost effective way i can achieve this?

Toyota Fan 08-26-2009 04:04 PM

...

There really is no cost effective way to make a stock supra 500 HP best thing you can do is a turbo engine and tranny swap but even then its not much more HP around 230 K&N Horse power kit will give it about 10-22 HP changing the cam gears and shaft will give a bit more and the exaust will also go to a shop and have them chip your ecu better spark plugs thats pretty much the basic the rest will cost you an arm and a leg. If you got the money I would do a 2.5 2jz swap first thing but its a ton of work then do all the stuff I said and ask a local mod shop for advice.

oh yeah, thats crazy, cuse i already tryed that, i only got lik 260 max,
thats just me guessing..

Toyota Fan 08-26-2009 07:49 PM

with the turbo version lightly modded its around 270 still nice but not near the 500 mark. For that it will take big time money and I would rebuild the engine too so it doesnt blow up on you. If I ever get around 15k I am gonna put a 2jz in mine but its so much money and work its mind blowing what you gotta do it make it a monster. The other thing I really wanna try is take a reg non turbo supra and try and build a supercharger would be a bit more powerful then the turbo around 280 from some of the charts I saw from guys who did it pretty cool tons of money and work....

haha thats a good dream, i guess we all need 2 look for a higher goal n go for it :)

so do u wanna use the original block???
cause if you do and you wanna stay n/a, then it wont b cheap, but it will b cool...

strip her down, bigger bore, stroke, bigger cams, cam gears, head work, stonger rods etc... but here is where u will gain...piss off all the intake crap and injectors...n invest in a sweet set of tripple webber carbs... alot of work... but after adapting and tuning them i reckon depending on how big you go bore wise etc...say you do a small overbore etc to the motor, i reckon you will b lookin at 300hp (maybe more)
...only thing im not sure about is how the carbs will take 2 a dohc motor...dont know any1 who has tried it lol...hmmmm

im kinda contemplating doin somethin out there like that hahaha.

nothin is impossible...it jus takes time, and some1 crazy enough (like me) to say "ill giv it a go." lol :crazy2:

I've seen weber carbs put on a I4 4AG engine (engine in Mid 80's rwd corolla's and MR2's), and for those that don't know it that's a twin cam motor as well, so apparently it can work.

However, you won't find much room for getting a larger bore in the 7M's... Think about it; this is the seventh time that block has been modified. There isn't a whole lot of room left. Anyone who has taken one of these motors apart will tell you that. Not to mention stroking it much would put the piston velocity at a dangerously high level, almost certainly leading to engine failure.

These are the main reasons that it's not feasible to get over 280ish hp out of a 7m without forced induction.

So much bad advice...

Toyota Fan 08-27-2009 06:28 PM

hmm

I wouldnt bore a that engine its already very thin as it is it will crack and blow a nice hole if something comes loose and Ive never herd of that engine being put in a supra. I would say if your really wanting to get a ton of horse power swap in a turbo engine and tranny and put a bigger turbo on the car but this is gonna cost your around 8-10k if done in shops and 6k if you do it yourself and find everything cheap.... for that price tag I would just 2jz it lol...

*D-Joker* 08-28-2009 12:29 AM

well i was jus throwin it out there lol...
ive heard that you have a few of thou to play with in the bore.
i was discussin this with my mate last nite (he is a mechanic/drag racer) who has built his own drag car n others, n he reckons that with jus changin to the multiple carbs and better ignition, n minor things you are lookin at minimal of 300hp, due to it already bein a big bore etc...
so dude...really as i said, its not impossible...if you want a n/a 7m motor with 500hp, i reckon it is plausable, jus gotta do some muckin around and be ready to spend a bit of money.
..but if u want a budget build, engine swap is the way 2 go...the 2jz is a sweet engine, or you could always drop an 8 in there =P ...its not like the mk3 lacks engine bay room hahaha
..its either being different, or gettin it done cheaper and easier lol...

Believe me, I would love to see someone build a N/A 7M to that kind of power. I haven't tried this, all I've done is reading and what I have found is shared in my earlier post. Can't recall the exact methods that have been tried by others, but they never seem to amount to anything you would expect, especially for the money spent...

Although weber carbs, itb's... would look pretty cool on a 7m engine.
