Help replacing rear Knock Sensor

so i need to replace my rear knock sensor for my 1987 turbo... i tried getting a socket and wrench in there but the socket wont clear the starter??... i dont have a wrench big enough lol any tips/pointers?

where is the knock sensor anyways? i got a manual but doesnt say where its located...

theres two of them.. one near the front of the block under the lower intake manifold and behind the alternator.. this ones the easy one to get to.
the second one is near the back of the block at the same height level.. just infront of the starter.. thats why i cant get it out because the starter is in the way. i can get a socket in there.

You'll have to loosen (but not necessarily remove) the starter in order to get to that KS. That's why everyone hates having to deal with that KS.

so do i go in from underneath? or do i have to remove the manifolds

Going from underneath is the easiest. Note that I said easiest, not easy. It's still something of a PITA, but less so than many other tasks maintaining these cars.

so i look at the tsrm.. and there are only 2 bolts i need to loosen? btw do u mean take the bolts out and and move the starter a little or loosen the bolts and i should be able to do it.. i dont wanna fuck anything up lol. im not familiar with starters.

Try loosening up the bolts without removing them first, see if that gives you enough play to get to the ks. If that doesn't work you'll have to pull the starter off and out of the way, but that's not all that bad as things go. It's not like changing the oil or anything major like that. :naughty:

lol
thanks. maybe u can give me some pointers on changing my oil and filter!! too lol.
i dont even know where to startt!!!

Oil change? Trust me, the best place to start is by getting a quality location kit for your oil filter and installing it somewhere you can actually get to as soon as possible. Your sanity and your blood pressure will thank you. :)
