do not loosen bolts if you are going to toque to a higher value than what you started with, tighten steight away,if the bolts are tighter then 72 ft lbs and the head bolt is still intact do not loosen the bolts, they may have been torqued to 75 or 76 ft lbs, this will also work fine.a third of the way up the water temp gauge is okay when driving normally.thats how my old n/a used to run.they get hot when you push them for a while.if this happens and you want better cooling( for racing applications )upgrade to a koyo racing rad, they are the best and plus you can use all the old hardware.it is recommended that you opperate a 180 to 195 thermostat, the coolest youd want to get would be a 170 but i've never seen one for the 7m-ge.you can get 160 thermostats but these will cause your warm up programming to malfunction(unless you've had the ecu modded to accept these perameters)making the vehicle run incorrectly all the time.so there you have it the "skinny",hope this helps and good luck to you and your supra!
